Rick Bachalo has an extensive work experience in the financial industry, with a focus on mortgage investments. Rick is currently serving as the President of Canada ICI Capital Corporation, where they lead the company's origination business, which funds over $4.5 billion annually. Rick is also responsible for building brokerage relationships and driving strategic initiatives.
Prior to their current role, Bachalo worked at Canada Life for almost two decades. Rick held the position of Vice President of Mortgage Investments, overseeing commercial mortgage origination nationally through branch offices in major Canadian cities. During their tenure, the Canadian mortgage portfolio grew to over $5 billion, with an annual mortgage production of $2.5 billion.
Before joining Canada Life, Bachalo worked at Great-West Life in various roles. Rick served as the Director of Mortgage Investments, responsible for underwriting and approving mortgage investment proposals nationwide. Rick also played a key role in portfolio risk rating, diversification, board reporting, and acquisitions. Prior to that, they were the Manager of Mortgage Investments, overseeing underwriting and approval recommendations.
Bachalo began their career at GWL Realty Advisors as a Portfolio Manager for Mortgage Investments. Rick managed the mortgage portfolio from 1990 to 1996.
Rick started their professional journey at Great-West Life as a Senior Analyst for Mortgage Investments in the United States. Rick worked in this role for five years before transitioning to GWL Realty Advisors.
Throughout their career, Bachalo has demonstrated strong leadership skills and expertise in mortgage investments, risk management, portfolio diversification, and strategic planning.
Rick Bachalo received their Bachelor of Commerce - Honours degree in Finance Major from the University of Manitoba between 1980 and 1985. In 1990, they obtained the CRF - Certified in Real Estate Finance degree from the Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC). Additionally, in the same year, they also achieved the FRI - Fellow of the Real Estate Institute degree from REIC. From 1999 to 2003, Rick completed their education at The University of British Columbia, where they earned the AACI, P. App. (Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute, Professional Appraiser) degree in Commercial Appraisal.
