Derek Ryan

Derek Ryan currently serves as the Head of International Markets at Canada Life Reinsurance, a position held since June 2020, focusing on expanding the company's international presence, particularly in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Prior to this role, Derek was the Global IFRS 17 Life Consulting Lead at Willis Towers Watson from December 2019 to May 2020, where leadership of a global team developed the IFRS 17 advisory proposition. From January 2017 to December 2019, Derek held the title of Sales Practice Leader for Insurance, Consulting & Technology in Ireland, advising insurance clients on various financial matters. Earlier experience includes positions at HSBC Insurance Hong Kong as Head of Product Management for the High Net Worth Business, and a Senior Product Actuary role at Swiss Re, where responsibilities included pricing and product management in the Asia-Pacific region. Derek’s career started at Irish Life, where initial roles included trainee actuary and involvement in pricing and valuation.
