Sam Bird

Sam Bird is an experienced Issues Manager with a notable background in education, Indigenous relations, and public service. Currently serving the Government of Manitoba in the Premier's office, Sam leads proactive strategies to address critical government challenges. Previously held roles include Policy Manager at Lakehead Public Schools, focusing on enhancing educational experiences for Indigenous students, and Indigenous Relationships Supervisor at Thunder Bay Public Library, where initiatives strengthened Indigenous engagement. Sam contributed to the Mastercard Foundation's EleV program, addressing systemic inequities in Indigenous education and economic development. Additionally, as a Human Resources Administrator with the Canadian Armed Forces, Sam manages travel claims and cost analysis for training and deployment. Educational credentials include an Honours Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Indigenous Studies from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education in Indigenous studies from First Nations University of Canada. Participation in the Broadbent Institute's Emerging Leaders Program further enriched Sam’s leadership and advocacy skills.
