Karim Mamdani is 1 of 2 members representing Ontario (Region 3) on CIHI’s Board of Directors. He is the president and CEO of Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, a public specialty hospital that provides specialized assessment and treatment services for people living with complex mental illness. The teaching hospital engages in research, education and advocacy initiatives.
Mr. Mamdani’s areas of focus include information management, employee engagement, financial and operational management, governance, land and building development, collective bargaining, funding systems, and strategy development and execution. He has worked at a number of academic health science centres, including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University Health Network and the Hospital for Sick Children.
Mr. Mamdani’s system contributions over more than 30 years in health care include leadership on a number of human resources–related committees, and positions as an expert advisor on funding methodologies, operating funding matters and information systems, as well as on mental health and medical services funding working groups.
Mr. Mamdani is the past vice chair of the Ontario Hospital Association’s Board of Directors, the chair of the Board for the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto and a Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan observer. He is also the former chair of Addictions and Mental Health Ontario. Mr. Mamdani holds a Master of Business Administration from McMaster University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
