Richard Coates

Richard Coates is a seasoned geologist and exploration manager with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. Currently serving as Vice President Exploration - Central at Canadian Natural Resources Limited since July 2013, Richard has previously held roles such as Exploration Manager and Area Geologist, contributing significantly to projects in the Peace River Arch and Heavy Oil South districts. Prior to CNRL, Richard worked as a Senior Geologist at Surge Energy Inc. and NuVista Energy Ltd., focusing on operational areas in Canada and the United States. With foundational experience as a geologist at Penn West Exploration, Richard's career is further complemented by two decades of service as a Commissioned Officer in the Canadian Forces Army Reserve, achieving the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Richard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied and Environmental Geology from the University of Calgary.
