Byron Schiel has an extensive work experience in the field of software development and engineering. Byron began their career at Whole Security Inc as a Software QA Intern in 2003. Byron then joined Motorola as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, where they worked until 2008.
In 2008, Byron joined Research In Motion as a Senior Embedded Systems Software Engineer, where they focused on optimizing user input for BlackBerry handheld products. Byron also played a mentoring role for co-op students and was responsible for developing and integrating the first optical navigation module for the BlackBerry 8920.
By 2010, Byron co-founded StarvingWorks Inc, a group of mobile systems experts specializing in mobile application development. Byron worked as the President and Co-Founder, leading various projects, including stock data processing, app development for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry, customization and deployment of CiviCRM, web design, and the creation of a Route Manager mobile application for a coin-operated amusement business. In 2012, Byron joined QNX Software Systems as a Senior Software Developer, where they worked until 2013. Byron then transitioned to BlackBerry as a Senior Firmware Developer, contributing until 2015.
Lastly, Byron served as the Director of Embedded Software at Canary (canary.is) starting in 2015.
