Chiara Cavagnero

Quality Manager at Canax

For years he wonder and are asked about what she want to do when she grow up, the answers are the most disparate until the day she understand the own path. She realized that she wanted to be a chemist in the fourth year of high school when she met Jóna, her teacher of efnafræð the (so she say chemistry in Icelandic).

In fact, that year she was an exchange student at Fjölbrautaskólinn við Ármúla in Reykjavik (Iceland), and although she always had the dictionary under her arm, she still liked chemistry and she was good at it; she realized that this would be her way, not even the language barrier was able to stop her.

After high school she enrolled in chemistry, she first obtained a three-year degree in chemistry and chemical technologies and then a master's degree in industrial chemistry. After some internships and research grants also at Exenia group, in 2019 she embarked on the doctoral path, in order to obtain the PhD title with a path that combines university training with business reality. In fact, the training is guaranteed by the University of Turin but the research is conducted at the research and development laboratory of the Exenia Group. This duality of the doctoral project, offered by the Piedmont region, allows her to enrich her background as a chemist and at the same time confront herself with the industrial reality.

Her research project aims to optimize the extractive processes through supercritical CO2 from waste materials of the food chain. In short, in Exenia she have the ambitious project of giving value to what for others would be a waste to be disposed of. Furthermore, at the Canax group she cover the role of manager of the ISO 9001 quality system; she is also involved in the development of analytical methods to monitor the content of molecules of interest in the extracts.

Thanks to the PhD program and the continuous training that the company promotes, she was able to attend special courses to specialize in the tasks she cover. In addition to coaching with a specific consultant for the ISO 9001 quality management systems, she had the opportunity to attend the course for quality management system managers promoted by Tüv Italia, with which she would like to continue her training in order to become an auditor. Obviously, chemistry also remains a fixed point in her professional career, the university offers her through the doctorate the opportunity to specialize in different analytical techniques, and at the same time focus on the HPLC analysis of organic substances, which requires a lot of study and in-depth knowledge. to be able to master it to the fullest. She hope to be able to continue her training also in this direction. In the last year she have also had the opportunity to approach the world of multivariate analysis, this approach allows to study the interactions between variables within a complex system, thus allowing to develop a complete view of the studied system. For this reason she would like to be able to deepen her knowledge in chemometry, in order to better master this technique to be able to apply it on an industrial level and be able to make the most of the research she conduct at Exenia group.
