Amanda McAtamney

Manager, Public Health Policy at Cancer Council Australia

Amanda McAtamney has a diverse work experience that spans multiple organizations and roles. Amanda began their career as a Research Officer at the Australian Institute of Criminology in April 2009 and worked there until September 2010. Amanda then transitioned to Urbis, where they served as a Public Policy Consultant from September 2010 to August 2012.

In 2012, Amanda took a break from their professional career to travel through Central America and Asia with Broadening Horizons. During this time, they developed skills in cultural communication, networking, research, planning and budgeting, and working under pressure.

Following their travels, Amanda joined EverymindAU in July 2013 as a Project Officer, contributing to national and state mental health and suicide prevention programs. In February 2018, they were promoted to the role of Senior Project Officer, focusing on national leadership in media and communication about suicide. Amanda continued in this role until November 2021, when they became the Manager of Public Health Policy at Cancer Council Australia.

Throughout their work experience, Amanda has demonstrated expertise in stakeholder engagement, qualitative research, policy and literature reviews, resource development, and capacity building. Amanda is a versatile professional with a strong background in public health and policy.

Amanda McAtamney completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology at the University of Sydney from 2004 to 2006. Amanda then pursued further education at Macquarie University, where they obtained their Masters in Policy and Applied Social Research, specializing in Social Research, Policy, and Sociology from 2008 to 2014.
