Carlijn Compen has a diverse work experience in design and leadership roles. Carlijn started their career as an intern at Philips Research, where they worked on the design and prototype of an interactive communication system. Carlijn then joined Ab Rogers Design as an intern, where they worked on exhibition and interior design projects. Carlijn later joined Océ Technologies, where they held positions as an Interaction Designer and later as a Visual Information Designer, working on various user interface and design projects. Carlijn also served as a User Interface Designer at Canon Inc., responsible for knowledge exchange between Canon Inc. and Océ Technologies. Carlijn went on to become the Portfolio Director at Océ - A Canon Company, where they were responsible for creating a portfolio strategy and product lifecycle roadmaps. Carlijn then joined Ocè Technologies again as the Head of Design, leading a team of design professionals and representing customers and users during innovation and development processes. Carlijn later became the Head of Design at Canon Production Printing, where they led a team of design professionals and focused on creating optimal customer value through software development. Carlijn also served as the Change Lead, leading an internal improvement program for a new Research & Development organization. Additionally, they have served as a member of the Industrial and Societal Advisory Board at Eindhoven University of Technology, Faculty of Industrial Design.

Carlijn Compen earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology in 2005. In the same year, they also participated in an exchange project at Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, earning an ITPD certificate. Later, in 2007, they received a Master of Science (MSc) in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology. Prior to their university studies, Carlijn completed their Gymnasium education at Salvatorcollege Hamont-Achel from 1995 to 2001.
