Leo Whitlock's work experience began in 1997 at Newsquest, where they started as a trainee sports reporter and later became a chief reporter and sub editor. Leo then joined Canterbury Christ Church University in 2008 as a lecturer and sessional academic. In 2000, they worked at KM Media Group as a sub editor and page designer for various titles before taking on roles as deputy news editor and news editor of the Kentish Express. Leo also served as the senior editor for south Kent and editor of the Kentish Gazette. In 2016, they became the editor of the East Kent Mercury, Sandwich Mercury, and Dover Mercury at KM Media Group. Leo joined NCTJ Training Limited in 2006, where they worked as an exam marker, interviewee, and assessor for media law and practice exams. Currently, they are the Head of Policy and Communications at Canterbury City Council since February 2017, where they are responsible for strategic communications, crisis and emergency communications, press relations, media training, content creation, marketing, internal communications, stakeholder management, and more.
Leo Whitlock's education history includes attending Epping Forest College from 1992 to 1994. During this time, they focused on studying A level Economics, English, Government and Politics. Following this, from 1994 to 1997, Leo attended The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where they earned a BSc (Econ) degree with a specialization in Government and Law.
