Ben Southwell

Ben Southwell is a highly experienced research scientist with a robust background in engineering and development. Currently serving as Lead Research Scientist at Canva since November 2025, previous roles include Staff Researcher and Senior Researcher at Dolby Laboratories, as well as Senior Space Research and Development Engineer at High Earth Orbit Robotics. Ben's career also encompasses significant positions at Dolby Laboratories as Senior Research Engineer, an Engineer and PhD Candidate at the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research (ACSER), and various engineering roles at Schneider Electric and Thales Australia. Ben holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UNSW and a Bachelor of Engineering in Robotic and Mechatronic Engineering from Western Sydney University.
