Bas Slats

Bas Slats has a diverse range of work experience in the software engineering field. Bas started their career at Softmedia Interactive as a Full Stack Developer, where they delivered websites for small to medium sized businesses. Bas then joined Flashtalking, Inc. as a Software Engineer, where they implemented data feeds for bespoke advertising campaigns. Bas later became a Senior Software Engineer at Flashtalking and was involved in productizing the company's processes, building a SPA interface and implementing REST APIs.

Bas then moved on to Catastrophe Solutions International (CSI), where they worked as a Full Stack Developer and collaborated with a development team in Germany to deliver a REST API and a mobile application. Bas also worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Flashtalking for a second term, where they worked on porting the reporting database from MySQL to Cassandra.

Recently, Bas has worked at Capacity as a Software Engineering Team Lead, Software Engineering Manager, Software Architect, and currently as a Principal Software Engineer. In these roles, they were responsible for managing teams, hiring, and leading the technical direction of projects. Bas successfully transformed a legacy codebase written in PHP to RESTful microservices written in Python, and addressed scaling issues for the products.

Throughout their career, Bas has gained experience in a variety of technical areas, including PHP, MySQL, Cassandra, Angular, REST APIs, and mobile application development.

Bas Slats attended Zuyd Hogeschool | Zuyd University of Applied Sciences from 2007 to 2013, where they earned a Bachelor of Communication & Multimedia Design degree with a focus on Communication and Media Studies. In 2009, they participated in an exchange program at Southeast Missouri State University, studying Communications and Media for a year.
