Ahmed Idriss

Director, Environmental Policy at Capital Power

Ahmed Idriss has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Ahmed began their career in 1992 as a water resource engineer at Dar Al Handasah. Ahmed then joined Alberta Environment in 1999, where they held various positions including Air & Climate Change Policy Advisor, Environmental Technology Manager, and Cumulative Effects Manager. In these roles, Ahmed provided technical expertise, policy analysis, and stakeholder consultation to implement environmental programs and policies. In 2010, they joined Capital Power Corporation as a Senior Advisor, Environmental Policy, and later became the Director, Environmental Policy. In these roles, Ahmed influenced and advocated for policy and rules in the business environment and market structure. Ahmed also tracked emerging environmental policies and provided policy analysis. Throughout their career, Ahmed demonstrated a strong focus on environmental management and policy development.

Ahmed Idriss has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph, which they obtained from 1996 to 2000. Prior to that, they completed their M.Sc. in Engineering from The American University in Cairo, from 1990 to 1992.
