Electrical Asset Engineer - Renewables at Capital Power

Sheila Obi P.Eng., M.Eng., PMP®, RMP® has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries.

Since 2021, they have been working at Capital Power, starting as an Energy Management Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and progressing to the role of Energy Management Engineer. Currently, they hold the position of Electrical Asset Engineer - Renewables.

In 2020, Sheila volunteered as a Capstone Project Advisor at MacEwan University, where they provided guidance and support to students on their projects.

In 2019, they gained experience as a Clean Energy Intern at the Pembina Institute.

From 2016 to 2018, Sheila worked as the Principal Investigator for ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), leading a research project on the feasibility of solar Photovoltaic systems in Africa. Sheila successfully managed the project and met all client requirements within the given deadline.

Prior to that, from 2012 to 2018, they worked as a Lecturer in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at AKANU IBIAM FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC UNWANA.

Sheila's work experience also includes a role as a Monitoring/Administrative Officer at the National Examination Council (NECO) from 2009 to 2010.

Sheila completed their Bachelor's degree in Education, specializing in Computer Science, at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology from 2009 to 2011. Following this, they pursued a Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic Oko from 2001 to 2003.

Continuing their education, Sheila obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, specializing in Power Systems, from Technology Jobs Update from 2004 to 2008. Sheila then went on to complete their Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with a focus on Power Systems, at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology from 2011 to 2014.

In 2019, Sheila enrolled in the EMCN Constructing Futures Program to enhance their knowledge in Canadian workplace culture, communication technologies, and project leadership. Sheila also pursued a Project Leadership program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) the same year.

Additionally, Sheila has obtained several certifications to further their professional development. Sheila became a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) through The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) in August 2022. Sheila also became a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute in October 2019. Furthermore, they acquired the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) certification in September 2022.

Beyond their formal education, Sheila has taken various online courses and programs to expand their knowledge and skills. These include certifications in project risk management, strategic thinking, negotiation, and data analysis. Sheila has also completed courses in Python programming, cloud computing, leadership, network security, SAP ERP, and mindfulness.
