Louisa Atkin

Principal Associate, Barrister at Capsticks

Louisa is a principal associate and barrister in the regulatory division.

After being called to the Bar in 2009, Louisa worked as an intern at the International Criminal Court for six months’ in the Netherlands. Upon returning to the UK, Louisa became involved in prosecuting cases of teacher misconduct before the General Teaching Council for England (GTCE). She has continued to develop her skills in investigating and prosecuting professional discipline matters ever since, and currently prepares and presents cases on behalf of the Teaching Regulation Agency and Social Work England.

Aside from her experience in professional discipline matters, Louisa is also an experienced inquest practitioner, having represented a number of healthcare trusts and local authorities in complex inquest matters, including deaths in custody.

Louisa has significant experience in prosecuting serious and complex cases, including cases involving multiple respondents, vulnerable witnesses and allegations which have included serious dishonesty and sexual abuse against children.

Louisa’s inquest experience has included representing a local authority in the inquest into the death of a 17 year old-girl at a secure children’s home, and representing healthcare providers in connection with deaths in prison.
