Bergur Sigfússon

Head of CO2 Capture & Injection at Carbfix

Bergur Sigfússon is the current Head of CO2 Capture & Injection at Carbfix. Prior to this, they worked as a post-doctorate research fellow at the Joint Research Centre - European Commission from September 2013 to July 2016. There, they worked on the status of geothermal heat and power in Europe, as well as EGS reservoir stimulation modelling and underground energy storage. From July 2016 to January 2020, they worked as a geochemist at Orkuveita Reykjavíkur. There, they were also the project technical manager of the CarbFix project - injection and permanent storage of CO2 in basaltic rocks at Hellisheiði, Iceland. Additionally, they were responsible for evaluating operational difficulties and recommending solutions by means of chemical monitoring of power plant liquids and gases, as well as evaluating discharge and enthalpy measurements of geothermal production wells. Prior to that, they worked as a research associate at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland from March 2003 to March 2005.

Bergur Sigfússon has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Soil Science from the University of Aberdeen, an MSc in Geochemistry from Háskóli Íslands, and a BSc in Geology from Háskóli Íslands.
