Wilfried Maas

Wilfried Maas, PhD ChPP FIChemE, serves as Chief Carbon Technology at Carbon Direct, providing strategic advisory services for carbon removal and reductions to help clients meet their climate commitments. Maas has extensive experience in carbon management and decarbonization, having held leadership roles at Shell, where responsibilities included managing carbon capture projects and energy efficiency initiatives, and directing the Global Risk Support team for greenhouse gas and energy management. In addition to current advisory roles, Maas has contributed to various initiatives in the carbon capture and storage industry as an Executive Committee Corporate Member of IEAGHG. Academic credentials include a PhD in Physical Chemistry and a Master of Science in Public Administration (Environment) from the University of Amsterdam, complemented by participation in the Shell Group Business Leadership Program at IMD.
