Benjamin Adams

Research Engineer at Carbon Solutions LLC

Benjamin Adams has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Benjamin started their career in 2007 as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Minnesota, where they were responsible for teaching and learning in undergraduate mechanical engineering courses. Benjamin also served as the department of mechanical engineering writing TA during their time there.

In 2011, Benjamin became a Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota, where they focused on basic thermodynamic modeling and simulation of a CO2-based geothermal power cycle. Benjamin'swork resulted in their PhD thesis and two peer-reviewed journal articles. Benjamin continued their research as a Postdoctoral Researcher from 2015 to 2017, extending their fundamental power generation models to find the US-wide potential and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to create maps of power potential. Benjamin also utilized the GCAM power system simulator to study the dispatchability of CO2-based geothermal power in a future electricity system.

Following their time at the University of Minnesota, Benjamin joined Colectica in 2017 as a Software Engineer, where they built a Windows-based application for enforcing workflow modifications to established survey questions. Benjamin used a MVVM framework in WPF for this project. Benjamin then joined ETH Zurich in 2018 as a Postdoctoral Associate, supporting teaching and research on porous-based geothermal electricity generation. Benjamin'sresponsibilities included advising masters and PhD students, refining cost relationships for power plants, and integrating them into a Python and MATLAB based coupled simulator called genGEO.

Benjamin's next role was with Dells Army Duck Tours, starting in 2004, where they initially worked as a tour guide, ensuring guest experience. Benjamin later transitioned into infrastructure development, taking charge of water, electricity, two-way radio, and datacom throughout the campus.

In 2022, Benjamin joined Austin Adventures as a Tour Development Specialist and Guide, utilizing their expertise in creating and leading tours.

Finally, in the same year, Benjamin started working as a Research Engineer at Carbon Solutions LLC, where they focus on research and development in the field of carbon solution.

Overall, Benjamin Adams has a diverse and extensive work experience, encompassing teaching, research, software engineering, and tour development.

Benjamin Adams completed their education in the field of engineering. Benjamin pursued a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering at the University of Minnesota from 1999 to 2004. After that, they obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, studying from 2007 to 2010. Later, Benjamin went on to earn a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, where they studied from 2010 to 2015.

In addition to their academic degrees, Benjamin obtained a Professional Engineer (PE) certification from the Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID in December 2016.
