Judith Fabian

Born and brought up in Porthcawl on the Welsh coast, Judith Fabian graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BA in Law.

She worked briefly in industry before taking a PGCE in English and Drama at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, from where she also completed an MA in Language and Literature in Education.

Judith taught English and Drama in secondary schools in east London for ten years, also becoming Deputy Headteacher in Waltham Forest. In 1990 she moved to a career in international education as Head of Languages in Amman, Jordan, and head of high schools in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Munich, Germany. In 2004 she joined the International Baccalaureate (IB) organisation where she rose to become Chief Academic Officer, responsible for the design and development of IB curriculum for students aged 3 to 19, latterly based in The Hague. She was part of the Senior Leadership Team at the IB for seven years during a time of complete reorganisation and considerable growth.

Since leaving the IB in 2014, Judith has returned to south Wales and authored articles and chapters on the IB curriculum, and co-edited three books on implementing IB programmes in schools. She is an educational consultant and has led workshops on child-centred teaching and active learning in Jordan and India. She is a Non-Executive Director for Estyn, the inspectorate of education for Wales.
