Doug Vermaaten is an accomplished fire service professional serving as Deputy Fire Chief in the Newark Fire Department since January 2022, where responsibilities include oversight of personnel and training for entry-level candidates. In addition to this role, Doug has contributed to education as an instructor at Cleveland State University since February 2011 and as an instructor/coordinator at C-TEC of Licking County since August 1999. Previous experience includes a tenure as Captain with the Newark Ohio Fire Department from June 1997 to January 2022. Doug holds an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Fire & Emergency Services from Hocking College, earned between September 1989 and June 1991.

The technical curriculum at C-TEC's High School and Adult Education Center prepares students to enter the workforce and/or a two or four-year college degree programs. In addition to our High School and Adult Education Center, C-TEC offers Customized Training to local employers to assure that their employees have the technical skills necessary to succeed. Customized Training is available around the clock on and off-site.
