Currently serving as the Chair of the Child Health Advisory Council at CareerPhysician and as Professor and Chair Emeritus at the University of Washington, Stapleton has held significant positions such as SVP at Seattle Children's Research Institute and Chief Academic Officer/Senior VP at Seattle Children's. Prior to these roles, Stapleton was a Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at UW Medicine and Associate Dean at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Stapleton's career began at the University at Buffalo as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatrician-in-Chief at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Stapleton earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Kansas Medical Center and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History from The University of Kansas.
