President, Carelon Medical Benefits Management & Carelon Post Acute Solutions at Carelon Insights

Robert Mandel, MD, serves as the President, Carelon Medical Benefits Management and Carelon Post Acute Solutions, formerly known as AIM Specialty Health and myNEXUS, respectively. In these roles, he is responsible for advancing solutions to ensure the care delivered to health plan members is appropriate, safe, and affordable.

Dr. Mandel brings extensive leadership experience to Carelon, previously serving as President of Activate Healthcare, and Health Dialog. Additionally, he has held a wide range of management roles with regional Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) health plans. His experience touches on every aspect of healthcare administration, where he has served the interests of members, providers, and health plans.

Dr. Mandel graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University and earned his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Doctor of Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. A board-certified ophthalmologist, he completed his Ophthalmology Residency at Will Eye Hospital in Philadelphia where he served as Co-Chief Resident in his final year and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Mandel has served on the boards of numerous community-based non-profits, including the Boston Institute for Arts Therapy, the Creative Discovery Museum, and the Whittier Street Health Center.
