Every day, patients across England make one of the most consequential decisions in their healthcare journey. Without the right information at the right moment, many end up in the wrong place. Not because their need is not real, but because the system was not designed to guide them before they arrived.

CareNavigator exists to change that.
We are developing a mobile-first, AI-enabled triage and care navigation platform that supports patients in identifying the most appropriate care setting before they make contact with NHS services, guiding them to self-care, community services, primary care, urgent treatment, or emergency care only where clinically indicated.

In 2024-25, there were 27.7 million A&E attendances in England at a cost of between £173 and £563 per attendance, representing an estimated annual spend of between £4.7 billion and £15.4 billion. Approximately 30% are estimated to be clinically inappropriate. CareNavigator is aiming to reduce that burden.

The platform is also being developed to incorporate an emergency department advance notification system giving clinical teams early visibility of incoming demand, alongside multilingual support, speech input, and audio output to ensure accessibility regardless of language, literacy, or ability.

Founded by Helena Assan Kojo, a Registered Nurse, we are at prototype stage, engaged with UCL Partners, Health Innovation Networks, and the NHS Innovation Accelerator, and seeking NHS co-design partners ahead of a formal pilot.

We believe getting patients to the right care, at the right time, should not be a matter of chance. We also believe early visibility of incoming demand is critical to tackling NHS waiting times. CareNavigator is how we intend to make both a reality.
