Chris Esguerra MD MBA

Chris Esguerra, MD, MBA has a diverse and extensive work experience. Currently, they serve as the Chief Medical Officer at Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM), where they lead various health care services and strategic efforts. In 2011, they started their own venture as a Physician Entrepreneur and Advisor, promoting healthcare transformation and integrating social needs care into healthcare delivery. Chris also serves as an Advisor to Carenodes and has held advisory roles at Lionrock Recovery, Altopax, and Periscope. Chris Esguerra has served as a Board Member at Project Angel Food and as a Member of the Advisory Panel for the North Carolina Healthy Opportunities Pilot Service Fee Schedule. Chris previously worked as a Senior Medical Director at Blue Shield of California, focusing on Medicaid, Medicare, and Dually Eligible covered individuals. Additionally, they have been a Committee Member at the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Chris Esguerra holds an MBA degree with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, which was earned between 2011 and 2012. Prior to that, they obtained an MD degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California from 2001 to 2005. Dr. Esguerra completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, earning a BS degree in Chemistry from 1997 to 2001. In addition to their degrees, they also hold certifications in Health Care Quality and Management from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, obtained in 2013, and Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, obtained in July 2010.
