The Opportunity 

Position Status: Temporary Part Time Term Ends: September 30, 2025 Location: Sarcee, C3 & ALC BW Hours: 54.25 FTE: 0.70 Shift: Evenings/Nights Shift Times: 1500-2315, 2300-0715 Union: AUPE Aux Nursing

Position Summary: The position reports to the manager and Team coordinator of the Sarcee C3 program, but provides care to ALC and C3 patients on the ALC unit. ALC - short-stay beds for clients who may no longer require the resources of acute or sub-acute care but who do require care and support while they await an appropriate living option. Reporting directly to the Client Service Manager, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides on-going client care. The HCA observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure. In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary: Comprehensive Community Care (C3) Program – a unique, long-term maintenance and support program for seniors who live in Calgary. Integrated and coordinated care is provided by a 24-hour health care team through a medical health clinic, day program, home support, transportation, access to respite beds and emergency response telephone system.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduation from Grade 12 is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
  • Strong preference for applicants who have successfully completed the “Advanced Assisting with Medication Delivery” course.
  • Active and current registration in the Alberta HCA Directory required.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Related experience in a health care facility is an asset. Program-specific training/experience is an asset.
