The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Clinical Effectiveness and Nursing Practice, this position is responsible for consulting with care teams with the focus of supporting residents and clients at end of life. Key accountabilities include providing or coordinating education about pain and palliative care to build capabilities within the care team to ensure pain and palliative care needs are addressed, working with the care team, including the physicians to review and recommend strategies to address complex needs and can support the team to make complex decision in a highly emotional environment. The Pain and Palliative Consultant works with a high degree of autonomy as well is in a team environment and must be skilled at collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team, completing comprehensive health assessments, and documentation in a timely manner. They will also be involved in direct consultation and support with the clients and their families. Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) program available in Alberta.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized nursing program; BScN required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current and active registration with CARNA required.
  • This position is required to visit multiple sites as needed; a reliable vehicle is required.

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in End-of-Life Care and/or Complex Pain Management
  • Previous experience working in a Continuing Care Environment
  • Experience working in a consulting role
  • Demonstrated leadership skills required
  • Adult Education experience considered an asset
