Hugang Ren

Hugang Ren has a comprehensive work experience in the field of medical technology. Hugang is currently serving as the Head of AI, Ophthalmology CDM, R&D at ZEISS Medical Technology since 2017. In this role, they have led the development and optimization of various software solutions, including an Android Deep Learning library for fundus camera image quality assessment and a cloud SaaS application powered by Azure Kubernetes Service and Docker.

Prior to this, Hugang held multiple positions at ZEISS, including Team Lead, Staff Expert, Senior Staff Software Engineer, and Team Lead, Senior Expert, Senior Staff Software Engineer. In these roles, they successfully led teams and delivered high-priority AI projects within tight deadlines. Hugang also gained deep knowledge of the complete end-to-end medical deep learning AI pipeline, from ideation to deployment.

Before joining ZEISS, Hugang worked at Alcon as a Principal Engineer, Senior Engineer II, Senior Engineer, and Product Development Engineer. During their time at Alcon, they made significant contributions to the development of ophthalmic surgical diagnostic devices and visualization systems. Hugang developed image segmentation libraries, implemented ophthalmic object tracking algorithms, and designed system software with a graphical user interface.

Throughout their career, Hugang has demonstrated expertise in developing and optimizing image processing algorithms using various technologies such as CUDA, OpenCL, TensorFlow Lite, and OpenCV. Hugang has a strong background in medical device software engineering and has generated multiple patent applications.

Hugang Ren has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tsinghua University. They also hold a Master of Science degree and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Stony Brook University.
