Irene Rüther has a diverse work experience. Irene started their career at Jacobs University Bremen as a Program Coordinator for an Executive MBA in the energy business from 2009 to 2012. From 2012 to 2014, they worked as a self-employed professional, conducting trainings for executive managers and managing a strategy study for a German energy network. In 2014, they joined The Boston Consulting Group as a Senior Consultant until 2019. Following that, they worked as an Executive Assistant to the CEO at Carl Zeiss Meditec AG from 2019 to 2021. Irene then became the Head of Therapeutic Lasers and Routine & Anterior Segment Diagnostics at the same company from 2021 to 2023. Currently, they serve as the CFO of the Strategic Business Unit Ophthalmology at Carl Zeiss Meditec.

Irene Rüther completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Strategic Management and Controlling from Jacobs University Bremen, from 2009 to 2015. Prior to that, they earned a Diplom-Kauffrau degree in Betriebswirtschaftslehre/Interkulturelles Management from Friedrich Schiller University Jena, from 2002 to 2008.
