Gerry Washburn currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools for Carlsbad Municipal Schools since May 2019, following a tenure as Superintendent at Roseburg Public Schools from June 2015 to September 2018. Previous experience includes roles in Los Alamos Public Schools from August 2008 to June 2015, where Gerry held positions such as Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Coordinator of Human Resources, Principal, and Assistant Principal. Gerry Washburn holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Administration from Northcentral University, completed in 2016, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Educational Leadership and Administration from Eastern New Mexico University, obtained in 2006, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Economics and English from Eastern New Mexico University, awarded in 1978.

Carlsbad Municipal Schools is seeking dedicated educators to challenge and inspire students to develop the skills and aptitudes necessary to make a living, succeed in a post-secondary education, and positively impact their world. Carlsbad Schools does offer hiring incentives up to $20,000 based on experience. Relocation expenses are also offered based on mileage. At Carlsbad Schools we offer mentor programs for incoming teachers to help support them during their first year, complete dossier for leveling up as well as OPAL for alternative licensure. Teacher housing is available on a first come, first serve basis. We will be implementing Opportunity Culture during the 23-24 school year to better provide our teachers with mentoring and offer students a quality education.
