William O'Brien

Graduate Research Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University

William O'Brien is currently an Undergraduate Researcher in the Regenerative Biomaterials and Therapeutics Group at Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on the generation of photocrosslinkable GelMA microspheres for potential diabetes therapeutics. Previous experience includes a Summer Internship at New England Biolabs, where William characterized RNA polymerase misincorporation kinetics and automated assays, and a research role in the Bettinger Group, developing "edible origami" technology for drug delivery. William also contributed to biochemistry research as part of the NJ Governor's STEM Scholars program and participated in international project-based challenges with The New York Academy of Sciences. Early research experience includes molecular biology investigations at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology. William is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, expected to graduate in May 2025.
