Breann Thompson

Associate Director- Learning & Community Programs at Carnegie Museum of Natural History

Breann Thompson has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Breann started their career as an Intern at the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in 2007, where they worked in the Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology. Breann then worked as a Substitute Teacher at Jackson County Schools from 2008 to 2011. In 2009, they became a Literacy Tutor at America Reads and worked there until 2011. Following that, they worked as a Secondary English Teacher at Washington County Schools from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, they joined the Carnegie Museum of Natural History as a Museum Educator and held this position until 2015. Breann then transitioned into the role of Program Manager at the museum from 2015 to 2019. From 2019 to 2022, they served as the Assistant Director for Education Programs at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Currently, they hold the position of Associate Director- Learning & Community Programs at the museum, starting in April 2022.

Breann Thompson pursued their education in the field of biology. Breann obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where they studied from 2004 to 2008. Afterward, they advanced their academic journey by completing a Master of Science degree in Biology, with a focus on General Biology, from New York University. Breann attended New York University from 2009 to 2011.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History collects and cares for specimens and artifacts that document the history of life and human cultures. Today its dinosaur collection includes the world's largest collection of Jurassic dinosaurs and its Dinosaurs in Their Time exhibition offers the third largest collection of mounted, displayed dinosaurs in the United States (behind the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History and the American Museum of Natural History). Other major exhibits include Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems, Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians, Polar World: Wyckoff Hall of Arctic Life, Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt, Benedum Hall of Geology, and Powdermill Nature Reserve, established by the museum in 1956 to serve as a field station for long-term studies of natural populations.
