Anthony C. DeFurio

Enterprise EVP & Chief Financial Officer at Carolinas HealthCare System

Anthony C. DeFurio, MBA, MHA, is enterprise executive vice president and chief financial officer for Atrium Health, one of the largest non-profit and leading academic health systems in the United States. As a member of the executive leadership team, he leads revenue cycle management, financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, supply chain management, information and analytics services, financial reporting, treasury, and managed health resources.

With nearly 30 years of expertise in the financial management and strategic positioning of multidimensional health systems, DeFurio joined the Atrium Health in October 2017. Previously, he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for UCHealth (University of Colorado) in Denver, Colorado. Additional leadership positions held throughout his career include serving as chief financial officer for the University of Colorado Hospital Authority, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals and Catholic Health Initiatives (Centura). In addition to these roles, DeFurio has had an extensive career with Columbia/HCA and related entities.

Among his many achievements, DeFurio has been named to Becker Hospital Review’s 2017 list of “Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know,” and was previously named “CFO of the Year for Nonprofits” by the Denver Business Journal. DeFurio was also named nonprofit/government organization “CFO of the Year” by Charlotte Business Journal in 2021.

DeFurio holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as master’s degrees in business administration and health administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
