Martin Smith began their work experience in 1984 as an Energy Engineer and Senior Energy Engineer, where they managed and expanded computer-based energy management systems, resulting in significant savings of over $4.5 million annually. Martin also played a role in negotiating favorable electric utility rate contracts.
From 1992 to 1999, Martin worked as a Telecommunications Manager and later as Director of Telecommunications at Southwire Company, where they managed the corporate voice networks and phone systems. Martin was responsible for evaluating new technology, developing the corporate telecommunications strategy, and negotiating cost-effective voice telecommunications services.
From 1999 to 2011, Martin held the position of Director and VP of IT Systems Support at Southwire Company. Martin managed a team of 10 employees and oversaw computer technicians, help desk specialists, telecom technicians, and network technicians. Their responsibilities included specifying, purchasing, and supporting workstations, establishing desktop software standards, managing the help desk, and developing the corporate telecommunications strategy.
In 2011, Martin joined the HR team at Southwire Company as the Director of HR Technology. Martin focused on specific HR IT projects, with a major emphasis on migrating the HR and payroll system to the cloud and redesigning processes for better efficiency. Martin also worked on a project to upgrade the security camera systems at multiple locations.
Most recently, Martin retired in 2018 after completing their role at Carroll Electric Membership Corporation as the Director of Information Technology. In this position, they were responsible for managing IT, telecommunications, and network systems, as well as leading a team of five professionals in supporting these systems. Martin provided guidance on technical projects and played a key role in planning and implementing technology projects.
Martin Smith has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Martin also holds a Master's degree in Business from the University of West Georgia. Additionally, they have completed Executive Education from the Harvard Business School.
