Ruchira Datta has a diverse range of work experience in various roles and positions. Ruchira began their career as a Software Engineer at SRC Systems Inc in 1996, where they maintained and added functionality to a commercial software application for thermal analysis of buildings. Ruchira also implemented interactive features and wrote a proposal for converting a proprietary database.
In 2001, Ruchira joined UC Berkeley as a Graduate Student Researcher in Mathematics. Here, they worked on proving the universality of Nash equilibria and coordinating the Mathematics of Phylogenetic Trees seminar. Ruchira also wrote a Linux kernel module and designed a cross-platform modular interface for link layer protocols.
From 2004 to 2006, Ruchira worked as a Software Engineer at Google, where they focused on computational linguistics and web analytics. Ruchira worked on synonyms for International Search Quality and web analytics for Google Book Search.
Ruchira joined the University of California, Davis in 2004 as a Lecturer, where they taught for a short period of time before transitioning to work as a Research Specialist in the Berkeley Phylogenomics Group at the University of California, Berkeley. Here, they developed computational methods in protein informatics and directed web application development.
From 2011 to 2014, Ruchira worked as a Research Specialist in the Center for Evolution and Cancer at UCSF. Ruchira then moved to the Mathematical Biosciences Institute at Ohio State University, where they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Their research focused on modeling the human organism as an evolving ecological community, particularly studying interactions between cancer and normal cells.
In 2016, Ruchira started their own consulting firm, Datta Enterprises LLC, where they served as the Principal Consultant. Their work involved mathematical modeling, data science, and software development.
Most recently, in 2019, Ruchira joined CAS (originally Chemical Abstracts Service) as a Senior Data Scientist.
Ruchira Datta obtained a High School Diploma from Kent Denver School in 1987. Ruchira then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics from Caltech and completed it in 1991. Following that, they attended the University of California, Berkeley, where they earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science in 2002. Finally, they went on to obtain a PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, completing their studies in 2003.
