Sean Murphy

Sean Murphy brings more than 25 years of forward-thinking, entrepreneurial leadership, nimble innovation, and analytic process development to his role as Catalina’s Chief Data & Analytics Officer, as well as a demonstrated commitment to developing people, differentiating business strategies, and sustaining customer prosperity.

An avid consumer of Marketing and Advertising Science research, Sean believes data is only useful if it is helping drive effective decisions, and his focus is on leveraging Catalina’s unparalleled shopper intelligence to help our customers do just that.

With experience spanning the technology, media and marketing sectors, Sean held a series of senior roles, including SVP of Analytics, with Vericast (formerly MaxPoint), the marketing solutions company that owns Valassis and Harland Clarke. While there, he led the Data Science, Marketing Science and Business Analytics teams, launching a new Insight Consulting Team to expand the company’s sales and service strategy and integrating three organizations to scale the company’s analytics and insight processes, launching five new products across six verticals, including attribution-based products to help customers drive decisions impacting their revenue growth and success. Previously, Sean was VP, Products and Business Development, for Neonova Network Services.

Earlier, Sean held a series of senior leadership roles for Vendavo, Inc., in Palo Alto, CA, culminating with his role as VP of Pricing Science, leading the team leveraging pricing data to help businesses drive critical decisions impacting top-line margin. Sean also spent many years as a marketing and product strategy executive for technology companies in and around Silicon Valley, including Disruptive.com, Peoplesoft, Supermac Technology, and Ask Jeeves (now Ask.com), where, in the early days of the search business, his team created search data-based solutions for customers.

After earning both a B.S. and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, Sean received a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He is also a patent holder and a world-class swimmer who has competed in numerous international swimming competitions, including the 1998 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
