Derek Somogy

Derek Somogy is an experienced patent attorney currently serving as the Assistant General Counsel and Patent Attorney at Caterpillar Inc. since May 2014, where responsibility includes leading the Patent Development Team and providing primary intellectual property support, particularly within the Innovation and Technology Development Division focusing on drivetrain, electrification, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Prior roles include Corporate Counsel and Senior Corporate Counsel, addressing patent matters related to Caterpillar's core machinery. Before joining Caterpillar, Derek worked as a Patent Attorney at Wood, Herron & Evans, LLP from September 2011 to May 2014, and at Renner Kenner Greive Bobak Taylor & Weber Co. LPA from August 2007 to September 2011, where engagement included patent application preparation, prosecution, and support in litigation. Derek holds a B.A. in Physics from The College of Wooster and a J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
