Catie’s Cause is a 501(c)(3) public health and education nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of acetaminophen and other OTC pain medications — and empowering families with practical tools to prevent unintentional overdose.

Acetaminophen is the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States (NIH). Many people exceed safe limits without realizing it, especially when combining multiple OTC medications or taking higher-strength products during illness or pain.

Founded in honor of 20-year-old Catie Smith, who tragically passed away in 2020 after unintentionally taking too much Tylenol over too long a period of time, Catie’s Cause exists so no other family experiences a preventable loss. Her story drives our mission of education, prevention, and wellness.
