Emma Crothers has held a variety of roles since 2015. Emma worked as a Front of House at Marco Pierre White Restaurants from 2015 to 2017. In 2017, they also began working as a Front of House at Queen's University Belfast. In 2018, they became a Payroll Administrator at CENTRE FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING N.I. From 2019 to 2021, they were a Research Assistant at Queen's University Belfast and a Research Engineer at Causeway Sensors Limited. Since 2020, they have been an EngD Researcher at the Photonic Integration and Advanced Data Storage Centre for Doctoral Training, a Management Board Representative, and a Doctoral Forum Chair. In 2021, they became a Graduate School Community Assistant at Queen's University Belfast.

Emma Crothers has a diverse educational background. From 2008 to 2015, they attended Wellington College. From 2016 to 2020, they obtained an MSci degree in Medicinal Chemistry from Queen's University Belfast. Emma is currently pursuing two Doctor of Engineering degrees, one from Queen's University Belfast in Engineering Physics and one from the University of Glasgow in Physics. Additionally, they are a Visiting Research Student at University College Cork in Physics from 2022 to 2024.
