CBCL Limited opened an office in Halifax in 1955 and, since that time, has developed into the largest employee owned multidiscipline engineering firms in Atlantic Canada. Company Description: CBCL Limited was established as a partnership in 1952 under the name Canadian British Engineering Consultants. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia since 1955, the firm has developed into one of the largest multi-discipline engineering firms in Atlantic Canada. According to project needs, CBCL provides the multidiscipline expertise required to see an assignment through from concept to completion. This expertise includes liaison with regulatory agencies, planning, scheduling, cost estimating and budgeting, detailed design, procurement, contract administration, construction inspection, operational training and documentation. CBCL provides studies and detailed design on collection, handling, treatment, storage and disposal of solid wastes and hazardous material. The firm has specialists in landfill projects from site selection, hydrogeological investigation, design, monitoring, and operational permitting through to closure planning, including finish grading and landscaping. CBCL has written the Nova Scotia Landfill Guidelines. CBCL has also undertaken projects in wastewater collection, treatment, and discharge for over 30 communities throughout Atlantic Canada. Waste treatment designs range form simple stabilization ponds to complex plants incorporating primary, secondary and tertiary treatment. CBCL is able to provide complete services for water systems, from surface and groundwater resource analysis through water treatment, storage and distribution of new communities, fish plants, pulp mills, subdivision, industrial parks and expansions to major systems. As well, CBCL designs drainage systems which include local storm sewers, collectors, tunnels, and outfalls. Studies determine inflow / infiltration and control methods, impact of urban development on quantity and characteristic of storm water flow, as well as erosion control.
