Brian Hackney

Brian Hackney is a distinguished anchor, producer, and science reporter at CBS5/KPIX Television, where tenure began in 2005. Notable for winning 18 Emmy Awards across various categories, including Best News Anchor and Best Documentary, Brian achieved a remarkable five Emmys in 2013 alone, representing a significant portion of the CBS5 affiliate's total awards for that year. Brian previously served as the Vice President of Broadcast for SAG-AFTRA from August 2015 to July 2017, having been elected to the Board of the union. Prior experience includes roles as News Anchor and Meteorologist at KRON-TV from 1996 to 2005, and hosting the Emmy award-winning PBS program Newton's Apple from 1997 to 2001, which remains the longest-running family science program in PBS history. Additional past work includes serving as Meteorologist and Science Editor at KGO-TV from 1990 to 1996.
