Systems Engineer III at CBTS

Philip Hempel has gained extensive work experience in the field of IT engineering, with a focus on Linux administration and system support. Philip started their career as a Systems Administrator at Southwestern Michigan College, where they played a pivotal role in rebuilding the network. Later, they worked as a Technical Contractor at TEK Systems, specializing in software installation for Eli Lilly.

Moving forward, Philip joined Theoris as a Linux Administrator at Purdue University, where they were responsible for critical servers and hub/grid systems used for computational scientific analysis. Philip then served as a Linux Administrator at Universal Music Group, where they managed a global technology environment with over 1,500 servers and 10,000 users. During their tenure, they received recognition for leading a successful site relocation project involving numerous physical servers.

Philip then joined Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services as a Senior Linux Administrator, providing support to Universal Music Group during its transition to offshore support. Following this, they worked at Brooksource as a Linux Administrator for the Innovations team at Humana Health Systems, where they ensured systems met security and authentication standards.

Philip's next role was at Indigo BioSystems as a Systems Engineer, where they managed technical support and purchasing for the entire company. This included infrastructure hardware, desktop systems, and capacity planning. Philip worked with a mixture of Linux and Windows servers, as well as Mac OS X for 45 users.

Continuing their career, Philip joined CBTS as a Systems Engineer, supporting their virtualization environment for General Electric. Philip provided system support and automation for system migrations to CBTS.

Currently, Philip is working at Genuine Parts Company as a Team Leader and IT Engineer III, specializing in DevOps.

Philip Hempel attended Florida State College at Jacksonville from 1991 to 1995, where they obtained an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Computer Programming. In addition, they obtained a FAA License Part 107 from the Federal Aviation Administration in June 2019.
