Scott Olesen is a highly accomplished researcher and educator with extensive experience in epidemiology and public health. Currently serving as Team Lead for Medical Countermeasures & Variants at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since April 2023, Scott has co-supervised the development of wastewater-informed COVID-19 hospitalization forecasts. Prior roles include adjunct professor at Georgetown University, where Scott taught a seminar on wastewater-based epidemiology, and Senior Quantitative Epidemiologist at Leidos, where a significant contribution was made by reducing COVID-19 forecasting code runtime. With a strong academic background, including a PhD in Biological Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and multiple advanced degrees from the University of Cambridge, Scott has contributed to various public health initiatives, including the development of a spatial COVID-19 vaccination distribution risk index and groundbreaking research on antibiotic resistance.
