Spiros Kambourakis

Spiros Kambourakis has a strong background in molecular biology, biotransformation, and enzyme development. Spiros is currently working as the Co-founder and CTO at Cellibre since July 2019. Previously, they held the position of Principal Scientist at Synthetic Genomics from May 2011 to July 2019. In this role, they were responsible for various activities including biochemistry support, enzyme purification and analysis, protein engineering, and screening methods development. Before that, they served as the Director of Biology at Strategic Enzyme Applications from January 2009 to May 2011, where they directed the molecular biology and biotransformation group. Spiros also has experience as a Manager of Panel Development at Codexis from July 2007 to November 2008 and as a Senior Scientist and Group Leader at BioCatalytics Inc from March 2000 to July 2007.

Spiros Kambourakis completed their Bachelor's degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Crete in Heraklion, Greece. Spiros then pursued their Master's degree in the same field at the same university, completing it in 1994. Afterward, Spiros attended Michigan State University in the United States, where they earned their PhD in Organic Chemistry with a specialization in Biocatalysis in the year 2000.
