Sonia Martínez Arca has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Sonia was the Director Manager at ACIS Axencia de Coñecemento en Saúde, where they were responsible for the continuous training of healthcare professionals, evaluation of healthcare technology, and promotion of research and innovation in the Galician Public Health System. Sonia also played a key role in fostering open innovation in the health sector in Galicia and promoting public-private partnerships.

In addition, Sonia has experience in public administration. Sonia served as the Director General of Innovation and Public Health Management at the Conselleria de Sanidade de la Xunta de Galicia. In this role, they were responsible for designing and implementing public health policies, promoting innovation, and coordinating national and international projects in scientific policy and cooperation. Sonia was also involved in the development of the Galician Smart Specialization Strategy and the implementation of a pre-commercial development program for research results in the Galician Public Health System.

Earlier in their career, Sonia worked at the Fundación Ramón Domínguez, where they focused on valorization and transfer of research, improving the visibility of research at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria, and enhancing research resources at the hospital. Sonia also held a position at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, where they restructured research support infrastructure and coordinated the establishment of the USC Research Centers Network. Additionally, Sonia worked at the Parc Científic de Barcelona as the Scientific Director and Project Manager, and as a Senior Researcher at Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus.

Sonia Martínez Arca's education history begins in 1987 when they attended the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and obtained a Diploma in Pharmacy in 1990. Following this, they enrolled at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid from 1990 to 1992, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy with a focus on Biotechnology. Sonia then went on to pursue further education in the field of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Centro de Biologia Molecular Severo Ochoa, where they spent the years 1993 to 1998 and obtained a Doctorate in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
