Notably, they successfully engineered two autotrophic bacteria for biofuel production as part of an ARPA-E grant.

Earlier in their career, Nymul served as a Graduate Research Assistant at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University from August 2007 to August 2010. In this role, they managed a research project aimed at mitigating NOx and SOx pollution and made significant contributions to scientific papers and grant proposals. Nymul also developed a chemical method for the absorption of NOx and SOx from industrial flue gases.

Nymul Khan started their education at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from 2001 to 2006. Following their undergraduate studies, they attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University from 2007 to 2010, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Continuing their academic journey, Nymul Khan enrolled at Penn State University from 2010 to 2015, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Engineering.
