Brent Safford

Associate Director, Drug Substance, MSAT at Center for Breakthrough Medicines

Brent Safford has extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Brent currently holds the position of Associate Director of Drug Substance at the Center for Breakthrough Medicines. Prior to this, they worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for almost a decade, serving as the cGMP Facility Manager.

Earlier in their career, Brent held various roles at Shire HGT, including Sr. Development Specialist II. During their time at Shire, they specialized in cell line development and cell culture process development. Brent led cross-functional teams in creating multiple cGMP cell banks and demonstrated strong project management skills.

Before their tenure at Shire, Brent worked at Transkaryotic Therapies, Inc., where they contributed to integrating cell bank preparation capabilities and played a key role in upstream (cell culture) roller bottle processes. Brent also gained experience in troubleshooting manufacturing processes and maintaining regulatory documentation.

Additionally, Brent worked as a Sr. Lab Technician at Taconic Biotechnology, where they provided leadership and training in tissue culture and processing. Brent ensured adherence to cGMPs and SOPs.

Overall, Brent Safford has a diverse background in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with expertise in cell line development, process development, and cGMP compliance.

Brent Safford completed an A.A.S degree in Biological Technology at the State University of New York at Cobleskill from 1995 to 1997. Following this, they pursued further education and obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology from the University at Albany, SUNY from 1997 to 1999.
