Elena Yanchar

Elena Yanchar has a diverse and extensive work experience. Elena is currently the Chief of Psychiatry at The Centers, where they oversee the psychiatric department. Elena is also the Medical Director of Specialized Behavioral Health Services, where they assisted in the development and implementation of specialized treatment programs for individuals with schizophrenia. Prior to their current roles, Elena worked as an Assistant Director for the NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship, where they helped develop the fellowship program and taught mental health curriculum to fellows. Elena has also worked as a psychiatrist and family medicine physician at Montefiore Health System, primary psychiatrist at the Jerome Avenue Men's Shelter for Care For the Homeless, and staff psychiatrist at Traditions Behavioral Health. Elena completed a dual residency in family medicine and psychiatry at UC San Diego Health, with a focus on underserved and homeless populations. Elena also served as the Medical Director at Bridges to Recovery and worked as a resident physician at University Hospitals.

Elena earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology from Kent State University in 2004. Elena then pursued a Post-baccalaureate Pre-medical Certificate Program at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2006 to 2008.

In 2009, Elena enrolled in Georgetown University and obtained a Masters in Physiology with a focus on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

From 2010 to 2014, they attended A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine and earned a Doctor of Osteopathy degree in Medicine.

Recently, in 2019, Elena completed a Public Psychiatry Fellowship at Columbia University.

In terms of certifications, they hold a State of Ohio Medical License from the State Medical Board of Ohio. In 2019, they obtained board certifications in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., as well as in Family Medicine from The American Board of Family Medicine. Elena also holds a New York State Medical License from the New York State Education Department.
