Lauren Silberman

Photographer at Center for Jewish History

Lauren Silberman has extensive work experience in the photography industry. Lauren started their career in 2008, working as a photographer for various clients, including well-known publications such as The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker. Lauren also worked with private clients for corporate events and nightlife. In 2011, they joined the International Center of Photography as an Instructor of Photography, teaching classes on social media and website building for photographers, as well as contemporary photography and environmental portraiture. During this time, they also worked as a Digital Imaging Technician and Photographer for Gilt.com on a freelance basis, focusing on still life and fashion shoots. In 2015, they became an Independent Curator, collaborating with artists to curate exhibitions from a conceptual standpoint, combining their various backgrounds in photography, video, sculpture, art history, and critical theory. In 2017, they joined the Center for Jewish History as a Photographer, working on multiple grant projects and documenting events. Prior to their photography career, they worked as a Studio Manager for Chris Coppola Photography from 2004 to 2006.

Lauren Silberman obtained their Bachelor's degree in Art History, Criticism and Conservation from Barnard College, where they studied from 1995 to 1998. Later on, they pursued further education at Bard College, where they earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Fine and Studio Arts between 2006 and 2008.
