Nancy Uttendorfer

Communication Department Head at Center for Spectrum Services

Nancy is Center for Spectrum Service’s Communication Department Head, providing training, supervision, and support to the highly-skilled Speech and Language Pathologists at both Kingston and Ellenville sites.

Nancy began her career with Spectrum Services in 1984. Since then, she has honed and perfected her unique, award-winning expertise in using a variety of strategies to enhance communication skills in children on the autism spectrum. These include teaching students verbal vocal language, sign language, the use of speech generating devices, and social communication skills development.

Nancy provides Clinical Fellowship supervision to new graduates pursuing careers in Speech-Language Pathology. Nancy also gives direct speech and language therapy to children with communication disorders, both at our school and through our Community-Based Program.

Nancy earned her M.S. in Communications Disorders from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1988, and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), as well as her New York State License in Speech-Language Pathology. Nancy has made important contributions to the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of the Hudson Valley (SHAHV), including serving as the ASHA Continuing Education Administrator for fourteen years.

Nancy received the Speech-Language-Hearing Association Golden Apple Award in 2012. She is also a recipient of the Exemplary Service to Individuals with Special Needs award from the Council for Exceptional Children.

Under Nancy’s leadership, our Communication Department is consistently filled with talented and creative professionals. In her work at the Center, Nancy finds joy in developing meaningful relationships with our many students and families with whom she has the honor to work.
