Center for the Art of Translation

The Center for the Art of Translation is dedicated to finding dazzling new, overlooked, and underrepresented voices, brought into English by the best translators, and to celebrating the art of translation. Our publications, events, and educational programming enrich the library of vital literary works, nurture and promote the work of translators, build audiences for literature in translation, and honor the incredible linguistic and cultural diversity of our schools and our world. Two Lines Press is committed to publishing daring and original literature in translation in striking editions. Founded in 2013, with the rich publication history of the Two Lines journal as its foundation, we specialize in exceptional new writing and overlooked classics that have not previously been translated into English. Two Lines Press books have been recognized by winning or being finalists for every major American book award that recognizes translated literature. We are committed to championing diversity in the languages, translators, and authors we publish, and we also believe that much of the most interesting writing around the world comes from diverse and traditionally under-represented voices. Poetry Inside Out is a cross-cultural world poetry and translation language arts program that combines academic skill-building and social-emotional development and inspires kids to see themselves as readers, writers, thinkers, and world citizens. Since 2000 PIO has worked with more than 15,000 students and teachers via in-school residencies and professional development. Two Voices events bring international writers and translators together for original and provocative conversations about literature and language, but in-person and online. Two Voices has been called “inspiring and illuminating” and hundreds of events over the past 15 years have included readings, conversations, and translation workshops.
